Michael Douglas & Kathleen Turner Reuniting for Netflix's Kominsky Method

16 Mar, 2019

Michael Douglas and Kathleen Turner will reunite on Netflix's The Kominsky Method, 35 years after they starred together in Romancing the Stone. The latest creation of veteran TV producer Chuck Lorre, The Kominsky Method stars Douglas as Sandy Kominsky, a once successful Hollywood actor who now makes his money as a respected acting coach. Alan Arkin co-stars as Sandy's agent and old friend Norman Newlander.

With its pairing of Hollywood greats Douglas and Arkin, The Kominsky Method has been a hit with critics and audiences, currently holding a 79 percent rating on Rotten Tomatoes. The show was nominated for three Golden Globes this year, winning the prize for Best Television Series - Musical or Comedy while Douglas also snagged an award for Best Performance by an Actor in a Television Series - Musical or Comedy. After a successful first season on Netflix, the show is set to come back for season 2 later in 2019.

Whenever The Kominsky Method returns, the show will feature a reunion between star Douglas and one of his former leading ladies. As reported by Variety, Turner has joined the cast of season 2 in the role of Ruth, Sandy Kominsky's second wife, "who delights in still being able to push the buttons of her ex-husband." Turner's character reportedly was originally going to be a French woman named Gabrielle, with Jacqueline Bisset set to play her, but producers decided to go in a different direction and the role was re-cast. Turner's character is set to appear in just one episode.

Douglas and Turner memorably first starred together in 1984's Romancing the Stone, an action-adventure directed with comedic flair by Robert Zemeckis. In the film, Douglas plays devil-may-care adventurer Jack T. Colton, who finds himself aiding Turner's fish-out-of-water romance novelist Joan Wilder after she journeys to Colombia to free her kidnapped sister. The two soon find themselves on the trail of treasure, with Danny DeVito's hapless villain Ralph in pursuit. The trio of Douglas, Turner and DeVito would prove a winning team, and all three would come back for the 1985 sequel The Jewel of the Nile. The three would work together again in 1989's The War of the Roses, a black comedy about a married couple going through a brutal divorce battle, with DeVito directing.

DeVito himself has already appeared on The Kominsky Method for a reunion with Douglas, and now Turner will follow suit. Thirty-five years after Romancing the Stone charmed audiences with its high-spirited blend of action and romantic comedy, it will be a real treat for fans to see the lead duo back together on the screen, going toe-to-toe as they did in the '80s when they lit up the screen with their chemistry and witty rapport.
