DC Universe's Titans Home Media Release Date & Special Features Revealed

13 Mar, 2019

Warner Bros. announces the home media release date for DC Universe's Titans, as well as the special features that will be included. The series quickly became a hit, earning an early season 2 renewal, and launching a line-up of planned DC Universe originals, including Doom Patrol, Swamp Thing, Stargirl, and Harley Quinn. In January, Titans season 1 was internationally distributed on Netflix, making it available to viewers outside of DC Universe's U.S.-only subscriber base.

Titans season 1 transported DC fans to an especially dark and disturbing version of the universe, reminiscent of comic book arcs like Batman: Year One and The Killing Joke. Dick Grayson (Robin), Koriand’r (Starfire), Rachel Roth (Raven), and Gar Logan (Beast Boy) form a team in order to protect one another and master their respective powers. Through Beast Boy, they are also introduced to the Doom Patrol, whose own series is currently airing its first season. Titans, meanwhile, is set to resume filming sometime this year, while Superboy (aka. Connor Kent) is expected to join the action in the second season.

Warner Bros. Home Entertainment will be releasing Titans The Complete First Season as a digital edition on March 21, 2019. Retailed at $24.99, the digital version will be available through iTunes, Google Play, and Vudu, and is currently available for pre-order. Season 1 will also be coming to Blu-ray and DVD ahead of the second season premiere. Rosemary Markson, Senior VP of TV Marketing at Warner Bros. Home Entertainment elaborated on extending distribution of the show:

“Warner Bros. Home Entertainment is proud to offer fans the opportunity to own this all-new, live-action series that follows a band of fearless DC Super Heroes uniting together from every corner of the universe. The unique and dark take to this classic tale will have strong appeal to DC Super Hero fans.”

All 11 episodes are included in 1080p full HD video with DTS-HD Master Audio for English 5.1. The digital edition comes loaded with over 40 minutes of bonus features, including: Raven and Robin Dark Rebirth (new featurette), The Story of Titans, The Characters of Titans, The Making of Titans, Dick Grayson’s and Rachel Roth’s Dark Past, A look at vigilantes Hawk and Dove, The identity of Titans Kory Anders/Starfire, Gar Logan’s Journey, Rachel’s Powers, The Doom Patrol meets the Titans, Jason Todd’s Robin, From Comic to Live Action Adventure, Meet Wonder Girl, Dick Grayson’s Dark Past, and World of Superheroes and Vigilantes.

For Warner Bros., Titans poses a new opportunity to test the market value of a series that's highly tailored to fans. For a time, the dominance of DVD and Blu-ray sales in the home media market appealed to shoppers by offering complete packages of audio, visual, and additional feature options. The rise of OTT meant more cost-effective, basic viewing of libraries of movies and TV shows available at a monthly rate, and prompted entertainment companies to use more bonus materials to promote projects through video platforms like YouTube. Warner Bros. is suggesting that for a show as popular, time-honored, and high-quality as Titans, fans are willing to take our their wallets for permanent ownership. They may well be right.
