Marvel TV Auctioning Props & Costumes From Daredevil, Luke Cage & Iron Fist

Marvel TV is auctioning props and costumes for Daredevil, Luke Cage and Iron Fist. The comic book brand has officially severed ties with Netflix with the cancelation of the all their collaborative projects - the latest of which came last month when they pulled the plug on The Punisher and Jessica Jones (ahead of its season 3 debut). On the heels of this, official items from certain shows in their now defunct slate will be available for sale for collectors and fans.

The slew of cancelations began in October starting with Iron Fist following a significantly better second season. A week after, news came that Luke Cage was following suit despite ending its sophomore outing in a cliffhanger and Mike Colter excitedly teasing what to expect in its third season. At that point, many assumed that the cancelations were due to the shows' poor performance, so when Daredevil season 3 rolled out and was critically-praised, no one expected that it would also bite the bullet. By then, it was clear that Netflix no longer had plans to move forward with their Marvel partnership and with that all done, Marvel TV is looking to sell off some memorabilia from several of their Netflix shows.

In an official statement, Marvel TV has announced that it will host a live auction "featuring original costumes, props and set decoration from Marvel’s Daredevil, Marvel’s Luke Cage and Marvel’s Iron Fist" in partnership with Prop Store. Over 750 lots will be up for grabs during the two-day event August 2019 at Prop Store’s auction facility in Los Angeles County, California. Those who can't personally come to the venue can make their bids remotely via www.propstore.com/marvel with bidding opening in July. In light of this news, Mike Pasciullo, SVP, Marvel Marketing and Communications offered some insight on the upcoming event saying:

“The props and costumes created for these series are the living embodiment of the comics come to life. We’re happy to work with Prop Store to give fans this unique opportunity to own authentic iconic mementos that were used to create these beloved Marvel shows."

It's unclear if Marvel TV and Prop Store are planning a series of auction events for other shows like Jessica Jones, The Punisher and even The Defenders. But 750 items to be sold out in one session is definitely intriguing. It gives off the impression that Marvel is getting rid of these props and costumes to officially end the stories of these characters (at least this iteration), with no plans of ever revisiting them. In Marvel TV boss Jeph Loeb's official statement regarding the end of their partnership with Netflix, he teased that these shows may get another life in a different platform, perhaps even in Disney's upcoming streaming service, Disney Plus. But with this recent move, that might not be the case.

With no more series on Netflix and Marvel Studios managing long-form content for Disney Plus, it's curious what lies ahead for Marvel TV. There are still ABC's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. and Cloak & Dagger among others but it remains a mystery what other projects lie ahead for them. Perhaps once Avengers: Endgame is out (which is restricting the reveal of any new information for the MCU as a whole so as to preserve the film's narrative) they can announce future projects handled by them.
